Glencoe Junior School places a high priority on the welfare and emotional well being of all our children. We want all of our pupils to be happy in school and get the most out of their education. In line with this we have invited Place 2 Be into our school. Place 2 Be plays an important role within the school by helping children who may be experiencing some emotional difficulty or have worries in their lives. The Place 2 Be is a national organisation that supports children of infant and primary school age.
Children can be offered time to “think things through” in the Place 2 Be Room set-aside in the school. The Place 2 Be Room is full of art and craft materials, clay, sand trays, Lego, models of animals and dinosaurs, toy cars, and even a dolls house.
At Place 2 Be Children receive either individual time or small group work sessions each week so that they will feel listened to, understood and supported. All Place 2 Be times are during the school day. A trained worker under the clinical supervision of Camilla Gammelgaard-Baker, our School Project Manager, supports children using the Place 2 Be Room. Workers in the Place 2 Be Room never see children before Tracie has first talked about this with parents and the school’s teaching staff.
Also The Place 2 Be offers all of our children the chance to drop-in and talk during lunch breaks. This drop-in is called ‘Time 2 Talk.’ Children come to Place 2 Talk with lots of different worries or concerns, from schoolwork, friendship problems, to being afraid of the dark at night.
Place 2 Be may also be able to offer support to parents and carers of our pupils.
For more information about The Place 2 Be, you can contact Tracie on her direct telephone line. The number is 01634 318785. Camilla is available all day on a Monday and Tuesday and on Thursday afternoons.
